I‘m noticing…

May 07, 20232 min read

This weekend I was at an embodiment and authentic relating workshop. Remarkable experience.

One of the practices was the „Noticing Game“. It’s a simple practice of simply naming what I’m noticing in the moment. At the workshop we played it with another person. Sitting across from each other we simply gave voice to what each of us were noticing, in our bodies, in the other, in the connection, in the environment or whatever was most present.

There were moments of discomfort, shyness, laughter, embarrassment, love, joy, excitement, curiosity and so much more.

lt sounds simple and it is simple. Yet, the learnings that come from it for me are profound. The intimacy it creates is wonderful and the authenticity I’m left with is nourishing.

A big lesson for me was on staying present with my experience, feelings and body intelligence while in connection with others. For most of my life I’ve lost my inner connection when connecting with others which has caused many resentments. Being present with myself allowed for a „dance" with the other to emerge while we sat across from each other.

It takes courage to name honestly what I’m noticing. A fear of mine has been around a loss of connection. Paradoxically, the honesty resolved this. I noticed that I was fearing the loss of connection with the other while always being willing to sacrifice the connection with my own experience. As I was choosing to consistently connect with myself in this exercise it shifted the locus of power from the outside to the inside. Now there was connection at all times as I chose to give honest expression to my authentic experience of the moment. This vulnerability then offered an honest connection point for the other which cultivated a level of feeling profoundly connected as we were giving each other the gift of witnessing each other (together).

The photo is from a silent retreat in 2020 in India. Sitting in silence for 7 days opened a first door into deep connection with my inner world. Now this workshop has opened a further door for simultaneously being present inside and outside while going through my everyday.
