Nature and naps

April 02, 20232 min read

This last week I’ve been feeling increasingly rushed. I notice with that my sense of inner happiness to drop. As my inner happiness drops I experience myself to look for happiness from the outside which then adds to the sense of rushing.

There’s profound value in calmness for me.

I’m highly empathic, not always fully tuned into this ability, but it’s always there. When I get into a period of go-go-go it feels initially exhilarating. I enjoy the sense of being needed. When I stay in it for too long though the connection to my core is dwindling. With that I’m losing the connection to the source of energy that enabled remarkable performance in the first place.

Nature and naps are the most potent ways for me to stay grounded in expansion.

Over the years I’ve played with many different formats for naps. At one point I was religiously napping for 17 minutes each day after lunch. At the moment it’s between 5 and 10 minutes once ore twice a day when I’m working from home.

Moving my awareness onto my body in these nap moments is so fun. I’m sensing the functioning of my different organs, literally feel a buzzing in my brain or my entire body shakes to release stress.

It’s miraculous how much nourishment a 7 minute nap delivers. I feel like living two days in one day and I recognise a significantly lower sleep need at night.

Most evenings I’m outside cycling and once a week I aim for a longer walk up a hill. These moments create perspective for me, literally. It’s wonderful to ascend and suddenly see the city I am living in from a different angle. It provides a palpable sense of freedom and the calmer energy of the hill ripples through my body and slows down my thinking helping me to become present with the moment and the opportunities right in front of me.

What all this does is moving my awareness from my head into my body. Opening myself to deeper layers of information that show my the right priorities and leave me filled with a deep sense of clarity.

It’s truly magnificent how happiness is always available and free to access if we choose to take a moment to connect inward.
